RECOGNISE YOUR SKIN TYPE
- OILY SKIN:
- Youngsters always moan about the oily skin type, but take heart - as you grow older this skin remains younger, longer.
The skin could be dull or sallow and appears shiny due to excess sebum - could result in spots & blemishes. The pores are usually enlarged, particularly around the forehead, nose & chin. Don't be tempted to strip the skin as this can cause the oil glands to go into over time. It can also leave the skin taut and dehydrated, causing the epidermis to shrink and weaken, thereby restricting the oil flow and causing blockages to the pores, leading to breakouts.
- DRY SKIN:
- This type of skin can be prone to sensitivity, as dryness is perpetuated by temperature extremes, air conditioning and wind, which cause surface evaporation of moisture. It has a low level of sebum - is prone to flaking, tightness and chapping. Use cleansers that are cream-based & products that are rich in moisture (not oil) and will maintain the level of moisture in the skin.
- SENSITIVE SKIN:
- This skin condition is usually quite red and tender looking. Pores not visible. May cause scaly, sensitive patches and may break out easily due to products, food, weather, etc. Any skin can be sensitive. Use alcohol- and fragrance-free products. Select a product specially designed for the sensitive or allergic skin.
- DEHYDRATED SKIN:
- This could be any skin type. Exposure to sun, wind and cold as well as sweating while you exercise results in moisture loss and the skin becomes dehydrated. The colour is often higher than normal and the texture of the skin is a little rough and uneven. Can cause premature aging. Use a hydrating, moisture intense masque specially formulated to provide an instant moisture surge after exposure to the elements. Use a moisturiser best suited for your skin type and containing Sun Protecting Factor 15 or 30.
